More source issues make for an unsatisfying tape: Antelope fades out after four minutes right when it usually gets interesting. The only known performance of Sympathy For The Devil opens set two, & it sounds weird if only because it’s so unfamiliar to the set list…It’s worth a listen though, Mike’s bass is downright propulsive on it and in another life you maayyy picture this being a regular in sets. A quiet section at the end almost redeems it, almost. Harry Hood closer almost transcends with an unexpected Page driven gallop to the final chorus.Īn incomplete tape starts where the 1st set ends, with a long & shapeless David Bowie. Introduced as “Where Have All The Lizards Gone?” after the song by Trey Crowd & band simultaneously start to become unhinged w/ a raucous BBFCFM featuring an audience sing-a-long, then antics carry into Camel Walk. Excitement for the Debut of The Lizards is tempered by the cut on the source. Whipping Post isn’t nearly as belabored as some recent ones. Then Fluffhead sans Fluff’s Travels follows…why? Another early Sloth but still missing some of the riffs that give it its teeth. Take the ‘A’ Train mercifully breaks up the 1st set bar rawk vibe. Check out the sustained notes in JJLC for the first hints of its capabilities. I haven’t pinned down exactly when the classic blonde Languedoc debuted but a lot of sources have it being built in late ‘87, so this *may* be the first show with Trey playing it. Very bar band-y beginning to the set for what I’m assuming is an apres-ski crowd from Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, two nearby ski areas.
